fishing trip.

Its morning and time for a nice breakfast and then go
fishing...

Two months after getting married, this young couple flew north
to Alaska for a grand time at Salmon Falls Resort. Its a short walk down to the dock and the boats. The
guides are ready and waiting to take guests to the nearby fishing grounds.

The guided fishing boats are all ready, lunches packed
onboard, and guests make last minute predictions about what size fish will be
brought back to the dock...
'Going to Fish Our Dream!'

A fine, fishing fleet awaits.

Its a short trip out to nearby fishing grounds of the 'Salmon
Capital of the World'.

On this particular trip out for this group, the guest who has
never fished here before has the honor of bringing in the first catch of many
that morning.

This was a great day fishing. They were 'on the
fish'...caught ten in the first hour...and the small group on this boat reeled in 18 salmon by noon.

After the last one caught, it was time to head back in to
Salmon Falls Lodge marina with their catch.

Back to the main lodge and a table in the restaurant with a
view of the waterfall to relax and enjoy the gorgeous views of the waterfall and
waterfront while the Salmon Falls Lodge staff filet, vacuum pack and box the
fish for the flight back home.

For this happy couple, its been a grand time at Salmon Falls
and they'll remember this trip for years to come. Taking with them their
fish for the freezer back home, they say goodbye to Salmon Falls, looking
forward to when they can come back and fish the abundant waters of the 'Salmon
Capital of the World'.

~ Reviews of Salmon Falls Resort ~
If fishing is your goal, a stay at this big on-island lodge
has several advantages. First, there's the incredible setting, on
island-dotted Clover Pass next to a waterfall where 10,000 pink salmon spawn.
Next is the cost savings of a road-accessible lodge, since you don't have to
fly there. Finally, you're not trapped in the middle of nowhere if one of you
doesn't want to fish -- the attractions of Ketchikan are a 17-mile drive down
the road.
The resort itself is comfortable and flawlessly managed by
Al & Shirley White, Ketchikan residents for over 58 years. Some 40 lodge-operated
boats tie at the dock. Rates are inclusive of food at the excellent
restaurant.
The restaurant and bar are in a massive log octagon held
up in the center by a section of the Alaska pipeline, with great views. Dinner
here is well worth the drive out the road, even if you aren't staying at the
resort (but make reservations). Meals from the menu of steak and seafood,
ranging in price from $18 to $40, are generous and deftly prepared, service is
excellent, and children are well treated. The kitchen gladly cooks guests' own
catch.

"Take me back to Salmon Falls Resort! Salmon
Falls Resort is an amazing place. The rooms were very nice and comfortable.
The meals served in the scenic restaurant were absolutely delicious and
afterward we strolled out to the beautiful waterfall just outside the
restaurant to watch seals trying to catch fish near the shore. We enjoyed
the beautiful scenery and wildlife. We saw eagles, deer, bear, orca and
humpback whales, sea otters, seals, porpoise, and lots of salmon jumping.
When we fished there, salmon hit all three lines on our boat at the same
time and many more of them were jumping out of the water all around our
boat! We had an incredible adventure in an amazing place. We took home with
us the salmon and halibut caught, lots of great photos and plans to make a
return trip."
"Had a fantastic time. All the staff were great!
Went fishin and slammed the salmon. Ask for Mike Kalenas for your guide if
you want a great fishing experience, he'll put you on the fish. Top notch
all the way. I would highly recommend a stay to anyone. This is a truly
awesome destination."
"The Resort, services, location, boats, and
guides couldn't be better. Fishing for halibut and coho was
balanced so we could choose which one to pursue. The weather was
sunny and clear the first day and the coho weren't biting (I only landed
one but something big slammed my rod and broke the 50 lb leader.
No idea what it was.) We opted to go for halibut and weren't
disappointed. Largest was 43 lbs. Second day dawned rainy
and windy so we ran for about an hour south to what I call Coho beach.
We trolled close in to shore in about 60 feet of water and ran into a
school of coho. At one point we had four fish on. Everyone
got their limit and then we tried halibut but only landed one.
Third day was clear, sunny, and calm again. We returned to coho
beach and had our limits by 10am. Halibut fishing was not good
again. When I left for the airport at 630am my two boxes of fish
were packed and ready. They were still frozen solid when I got
home. The food at the resort is wonderful and the portions huge.
I fished all three days with the same guide and he was great. I
highly recommend Salmon Falls Resort and plan to return next year."
"Annual family pilgrimage. Lodge and
Restaurant sit on one of the most impressive and scenic locations I
have visited. Eagles soar at eye level as you dine. Your view
overlooks an ocean inlet and a magnificent waterfall. We have
been a dozen times and the fishing has been excellent. Last year
my family (4 of us) brought 420 lbs of salmon and halibut filets back
to AZ. The lodge prepares your catch to your order for travel.
You wake up, eat breakfast, jump on the boat with expert guide to
fish, lunch on boat, return, guide offloads fish, dock hands clean and
freeze fish while you shower up before cocktails and dinner at the
lodge. Absolutely amazing place at the end of the road 15 miles
outside Ketchikan. Thanks Al and Shirley!
"Spectacular natural setting, wonderful
staff. My wife and I, along with a group of friends, had the
pleasure of staying at the Salmon Falls Resort for 4 nights in
August, 2009. First, the setting is beautiful. Salmon Falls is
located about 15 miles north of Ketchikan on Revillagigedo Island,
Alaska. It overlooks Betton Island (named by Capt. George
Vancouver in 1793) and the Clover Passage. The Salmon Falls
waterfall is located immediately next to the Lodge. At the
time of our stay there were many, many Salmon making their "run."
The Lodge staff were extremely helpful in every respect. They
picked us up at Ketchikan airport, made all of the arrangements for
fishing, gave us ideas for hikes and day adventures, arranged a
float plane ride and took us back and forth to Ketchikan. The
meals at the resort were large and delicious. We had to leave
very early the last day and the resort prepared a small breakfast
for our departure. They also prepared and provided picnic
lunches for fishing. I would definitely return."
"Trip of a lifetime. Salmon Falls
Resort...the title does not do this place justice! It should
be called the Salmon Falls experience. There is lodging that
is of the log cabin style (very comfortable nothing fancy), a
restaurant where we ate some of the freshest fish, crab, oysters,
and muscles, and had amazing steak and the best chowder I have
ever had. Then there is the fishing which is world class.
We were going for Salmon and Halibut (came home with over 100lbs
of halibut fillets!!!). There are also jet boat tours and a
gift shop which mainly are for the visitors from the cruise ships.
We were there for the fishing, which was great, but ended up
having some of the best times at the restaurant. The dinning was
out of this world!!! And to top everything off the staff is
fantastic! They went out of their way to get to know us, and
make us feel comfortable and to accommodate all of our needs.
For the Alaskan experience, with amazing fishing and great dinning
I highly recommend this place."
YAHOO! USER REVIEWS:
"Fishing was the best I had all my life I cannot wait until next year.
The food was to die for - their prime rib I could not finish. If you going
fishing ask for the guide Craig."
"I have visited other fish camps/resorts and this place is the best!
Friendly and helpful management, great staff, excellent restaurant and
fishing as good as it gets. I would highly recommend Salmon
Falls to anyone. You will not be disappointed."
